Abstract

Renewable energy is collected from renewable resources like wind, solar etc. and due to the rising depletion of fossil fuels; renewable energy is the source that humanity turns to for harnessing electrical power. In renewable energy sources like PV, the output voltage is a function of naturally varying phenomenon of light intensity and temperature. Therefore it is seen that in such applications the DC voltage obtained from the PV panel is varying in nature and it is necessary to regulate this voltage to constant level so that a suitable application can be driven effectively and efficiently. The power so obtained often needs DC- better DC conversion for supplying the load properly. In this context, a power electronics KY converter is gaining popularity in this field. The KY converter gets its name from the initials of the researchers K.I. Hwu and Y.T. Yau. The KY converter can find numerous applications, where a ripple free DC voltage is desired. In order to improve the performance of basic KY converter, this paper discusses a Fuzzy logic controlled KY converter for PV applications. MATLAB simulation results are presented to demonstrate the performance of KY converter with FLC and PI controller. The simulation results are validated with hardware model.
